“How can I live with this loss?”

“How will I survive this pain”

It is a common myth that people ‘get over’ grief. Grief has no timeline. So while it is common to ask ‘how will I ever get over my grief?’ - there is no definitive answer. Immediately following the loss, the future may seem very dark and frightening, and you may wonder how you will survive the pain. Even many years after a loss, you can feel sadness when confronted with reminders. But it’s important to take steps towards accommodating grief in your life, even if they are small steps.

  • The experience of grief is different for everyone. At times grief can be debilitating, and it may be hard to make sense of what has happened. • Grief counselling for children is highly recommended for managing family grief and loss. Grief for children is effected by the level of connection with the person who has died, the child’s age and developmental stage, and past experiences. The short answer is ‘yes’ you can talk to your children about grief. It is often very constructive to have conversations about some of the feelings they may be experiencing.
