Grief Counselling Services

Grief Counselling

At Grief Talk we offer specialist grief counselling for individuals, children and families who need support as a result of significant loss. We support you in finding your own way through your grief, in your own time by providing you the space to discuss your feelings and emotions without judgement. Mariam’s empathetic approach is tailored to the client’s needs, rather than making the client fit a specific model. Counselling proceeds at a pace and depth that is best for you. We are here as a companion as you walk through this difficult time in your life.

Our initial appointment will take up to two hours. After this session we can then decide how frequently you would like to meet.

Immediate Support After a Death

The pain of loss, whether sudden or anticipated, can feel overwhelming. You may experience a range of emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness. The pain of grief can also impact physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. At Grief Talk we offer individual and family support immediately following the death of someone close. Mariam can offer emotional as well as practical support. Mariam will draw on many years of experience as a hospital Social Worker and working in palliative care to guide you in the days and weeks following the death.

Please contact Mariam to discuss support options available to you.

Grief Counselling for Children & Teens

A child’s understanding and expression of grief and loss is dependent on their developmental stage, age, and past experiences of grief and loss. Just like in adults, grief effects every part of a child’s life, including their thoughts, behaviours, feelings, physical health and their relationships with others. Children can also be ‘forgotten mourners’, as the adults in their lives are trying to cope with their own grief. At Grief Talk we provide specialist grief counselling in a safe and creative space for children to work through their grief. We also work with their families to share their sorrow, fears and confusion to better relate and heal. Sessions will vary with dedicated individual grief counselling sessions as well as family grief counselling sessions.

Grief Support Groups

Feelings of isolation and loneliness are a common experience for grieving individuals when they feel as though ‘people just don’t understand’. However, through the grief support groups you can meet others who know how you may be feeling, because they too have experienced a significant loss. Through these groups you will be able to come together and share experiences, memories, information and concerns.

To be eligible, you will need to engage in individual counselling at Grief Talk prior to being enrolled in a group.
